Ryanair committed to Durham Tees Valley

Ryanair is ‘fully committed’ to Durham Tees Valley Airport and is happy with how its routes are performing, the Echo reports. KLM – which flies 3 times daily to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport – also pledged its support to the airport last week.
Durham Tees Valley has been hit recently by announcements from holiday company Thomson, which axed its route to Alicante, and Hungarian airline Wizz Air, which cancelled flights to the Polish capital Warsaw. Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan, which flies to Tenerife, Faro, Malaga, Alicante, Palma and Jersey, has also yet to confirm its routes from the airport next year, sparking speculation that it is set to pull out.
Ryanair began flying from Durham Tees Valley in 1997 when it introduced its Dublin service, which now operates 5 days a week. It also has 3 flights a week to Alicante and Barcelona. In total, 135,000 passengers fly with the budget airline from the airport every year.
Ashley Casey, marketing executive for Ryanair, said: ‘There has been a lot of speculation and reports about a number of airlines reducing frequencies or pulling out of Durham Tees Valley. We have no intention of reducing our flights from the airport. We remain fully committed to the hub.’
‘The 3 routes are operating well and that bodes well for the future. Advanced bookings look positive and we are not anticipating any drop in these.’
