07.03.08
An RAF Harrier jet made an emergency landing at Durham Tees Valley Airport yesterday after its canopy was smashed during mid-flight refuelling. The Northern Echo newspaper reports that the valve on the end of the refuelling hose struck the canopy of the Harrier as it was preparing to take on fuel.
The fighter plane diverted to Durham Tees Valley after its pilot got into difficulties at 14:42, and the airport was placed on full emergency. However, the Harrier, which was on routine exercises from RAF Cottesmore, landed safety at 14:55. Emergency crews were stood down ten minutes later.
