Excelsis founder faces fraud trial
08.05.10
A Nigerian businessman who claimed he would restore Teesside’s flights link to London has been charged with fraud. Victor Bassey, founder of Excelsis Airways - whose entire management team quit last year in a row over pay and a lack of funding - is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court next Thursday to answer the charges.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: ‘A 49-year-old man has been charged with fraudulent trading, possession of articles for the use in fraud and of obtaining services by deception.’ Durham Tees Valley Airport declined to comment on the news but said it was no further forward in its attempts to reinstate its link with London.
