Drunken bomb 'joke' causes security alert
08.09.09
Three Latvian men were arrested after causing a security alert at Durham Tees Valley Airport yesterday evening. The men were checking-in on a KLM flight to Amsterdam at 17:00, when staff became concerned that they were drunk. Then one of the men pulled an alarm clock out from his bag and shouted three times that it 'was a bomb'.
Airport security staff detained the men, who were passed over to the police. The men, aged 26, 45 and 54, were arrested and interviewed at Darlington Police Station, where it was established the incident had been 'a drunken joke'. The 45-year-old who had made the bomb claim was given a caution and his fellow travellers were released without further action. There were no delays caused to flights.
