Hundreds back newspaper's 'Teeside Airport' campaign

Hundreds of people have backed a newspaper's campaign to get Durham Tees Valley Airport to change its name back to Teesside Airport. The airport changed its name from Teesside to Durham Tees Valley (DTV) in 2004. However, almost 900 people have voted for it to change back on the Evening Gazette’s website, with more sending in coupons printed in the paper.
Local MP James Wharton has pledged to keep up the pressure to get the airport’s Teesside name reinstated. He has been delighted with the response to his call for the Durham Tees Valley moniker to be axed, and he believes that rebranding the airport as Teesside would be an important statement showing its new owners wanted to listen to the community.
Mr Wharton told the newspaper: ‘I will be writing again to the airport and the parent company (Vancouver Airport Services) when the results of the Evening Gazette’s online and coupon poll are known. I think this is a great opportunity for the new owners to show they want to work with people in the local community.’
