Flyglobespan flight delayed for 7 hours
12.03.08
Over 200 holidaymakers were grounded for 7 hours when their flight was delayed at Durham Tees Valley Airport. The passengers had been expecting to board a Flyglobespan flight leaving at 09:35 to Malaga. But due to a technical fault the flight was delayed until 16:20.
A spokesman for the airline said: ‘The crew detected a technical problem with the aircraft. The initial opinion was that it could be repaired quickly but it proved more complicated than first thought and a replacement aircraft had to be sourced. The passengers were given a refreshment voucher during the delay and a complimentary drink on the flight.'
A spokesperson for the airport clarified this statement a little He said: ‘Flyglobespan offered £4 vouchers and I believe passengers were given the opportunity to have a cigarette.' Apparently there was some passenger unrest at a £4 voucher for a 7 hour delay, especially as they were forced to pay 'airport prices' during the wait.
