Stockton Council backs airport expansion
12.12.06
Stockton Borough councillors have unanimously backed the £56m plans to develop Durham Tees Valley Airport. The ambitious plans, which will bring the airport's capacity up to 3 million passengers a year, are now set to go before Darlington Borough Council for an overall decision.
The planning application features an extended and refurbished terminal building and improved baggage-handling and check-in facilities. It also includes lounges, office space, retail facilities and restaurant opportunities. Additions to the 213-hectare site includes a cargo and maintenance village, nine aircraft parking stands and 4,500 airport car parking spaces.
Darlington council will also consider seperate plans to create a 54,000sq ft business park with a 100-bed airport hotel, pub and restaurant. Around 2,500 jobs could be created if the development goes ahead.
Darlington Council's planning committee will meet on December 12 to look at the application.
