Big passenger increases
13.03.11
Durham Tees Valley Airport saw big jumps in passenger numbers in the first two months of 2011. There were 47% more passengers in January (up to 17,203 in total) than last year and 24% more in February (up to 16,266 in total). With figures for 3 out of the last 4 months up - the only exception was December when the snow and ice led to a slight decline - airport director Mike Morton said the airport is ‘fighting back.’
He said: ‘Durham Tees Valley has had a tough time over the last couple of years, but I believe that the turnaround began in November and we are starting to head in the right direction. Provisional figures for January from the CAA show our percentage increases in both passengers and flights were among the highest for any UK airport.'
‘What is especially significant is the Passenger Facility Fee, which we introduced in mid-November, does not appear to have had a negative impact on our passenger numbers.’
