All change at Durham Tees Valley ahead of busy summer

Office staff at Durham Tees Valley airport are being moved out of the terminal to make way for more passengers. A spokesman said the measures are needed to accommodate a record number of passengers expected during the year.
The airport is awaiting a decision on plans for a major expansion to deal with 3 million passengers by 2015. In the mantime the three-month operation will see office space transformed into an extended departure lounge for the busy summer season.
Durham Tees Valley Airport managing director Hugh Lang said long-term plans involve a major expansion of the terminal, including new departure facilities with up to 30 check-ins, baggage handling facilities, with new aircraft stands, taxiway and apron facilities.
He added: 'However, we know that with an additional 200,000 passengers expected this year, we need to introduce measures which will enable us to provide a good standard of service, especially during the very busy summer period.'
'By moving the management staff out of the terminal building we can utilise that space to provide a new extended departure lounge for passengers.'
