Wind farm safety concerns
15.05.08
Residents opposing a wind farm near their homes have expressed fears over air traffic safety. Villagers from Hilton village, near Yarm in Durham, believe the planned turbines could cause problems for aircraft flying in and out of Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Broadview Energy wants to build up to five 125m turbines between Seamer and Hilton, near the A19. However, a campaigner from the village said: ‘Wind turbines within the safeguarded area can affect the radar. Our primary concern is the safety of passengers.’
Broadview Energy Managing director Jeff Corrigan, has said the company will investigate to see what impact the proposed wind farm will have on the airport.
