Passengers up 16% in March

Passengers were up 16% at Durham Tees Valley Airport in March increased by over 16% compared to the same month in 2007. Just over 46,000 passengers passed through the terminal in March, with low cost flights driving the growth.
Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan had a busy month, with passengers taking winter sun flights to Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Lanzarote and Tenerife. In addition, over 3,000 passengers took one of the twice a week flights to Warsaw with Wizz Air.
The beginning of March also saw the launch of flights to Alicante by Ryanair. The airline now operates flights 3 times a week to the popular holiday destination, adding to its established routes of Dublin and Barcelona.
April is expected to see an even bigger jump in passenger numbers, when Flyglobespan launch a summer programme with flights to Alicante, Palma, Jersey, Faro, Malaga and Tenerife. The month will also see the start of flights by a number of tour operators’ to 13 popular holiday destinations.
