Sudden departure of airport boss announced
16.07.11
Durham Tees Valley Airport’s director has left his post after only a year in charge. Owners Peel Airports said that Mike Morton ‘has left to pursue new challenges.' The sudden announcement comes after a difficult few months and just as the busy holiday period is about to start. One local newspaper reports the announcement follows confirmation that ten fire fighters are to lose their jobs at the airport as part of a cost cutting exercise.
Mr Morton has been with Peel since 2008 and took responsibility for operations at the Durham Tees Valley in May 2010. A Peel spokesman said: ‘Mike’s passion for the business has been apparent to all those he has met during his time at the airport. We wish him every success for the future.'
‘Peel Airports will be looking to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible. Until then the team at the airport, supported by parent company Peel Airports, will continue to ensure that it is business as usual during the busy summer period.’
