Free airport bus axed
20.01.09
A free bus service to Durham Tees Valley Airport is being axed because of ‘declining demand’. The airport has announced that its ‘Sky Express’ service linking it with Darlington Station will end next week.
Airport director Kerry Quinn blamed a declining demand for the service, which has operated since April 2005, making it no longer viable. She said: ‘It is disappointing that we have had to withdraw Sky Express, but recently demand has fallen to an unsustainable level. With a high percentage of outbound passengers at Durham Tees Valley, this service is clearly not attractive to travellers, even though it was being provided free.’
The service received initial financial support from the Durham and Tees Valley Partnerships but that ended in Spring 2007 and since then it has been funded by the airport. It will cease to operate on January 25.
