Airport boss leaving not part of cost cutting plan

Durham Tees Valley Airport has denied the shock departure of the airport's director was part of a cost-cutting plan, the Northern Echo reports. The newspaper also understands that a decision on whether the airport will revert to its former name, Teesside Airport, could be made in autumn.
The airport does not regard making a decision on the name a priority, and is focusing on boosting revenue and finding a replacement for Mike Morton, who quit last week as airport director. He left in the same week that it emerged 10 of the airport’s firefighters are to lose their jobs as part of a cost-cutting exercise. Further job losses have not been ruled out.
A spokesman said Mr Morton’s departure is not connected to cuts in the number of firefighters and that his replacement would be appointed as soon as possible.
