Thomson axe Alicante flights
22.09.08
Thomson have became the latest airline to axe flights from Durham Tees Valley Airport, after it announced it will no longer operate flights to Alicante from next year. The news comes after Wizz Air recently cancelled flights between Durham Tees Valley and Warsaw, whilst Flyglobespan has yet to announce services for next year, prompting speculation that it could be the next to pull out.
A spokesman for airport owners Peel Airports said: ‘While Thomson will not be operating to Alicante next summer, a more flexible scheduled service on the route will be operated by Ryanair. We are also in continuing discussions with Flyglobespan on their plans for next summer.'
‘We have made our commitment to the expansion and development of all aspects of the business at Durham Tees Valley very clear, investing heavily over the past 3 years and with ambitious development plans for the future, including, for example, major terminal improvements and the recently announced proposal for a new £8.5m airport hotel.’
