Durham Tees in search of new Routes
25.09.07
Delegates from Durham Tees Valley airport have flown out to a major airline routes conference to try and attract more flights to airport.
Some of the world's largest airlines and operators are at the 13th World Routes Conference in Stockholm, Sweden this week. The 3 day convention, which started on Sunday and ends today, offers the airport a chance to showcase North-east England to potential airlines who could expand the region's connections across the globe, a spokesman said.
The North-east is represented in force at the convention, with Durham Tees Valley Airport, regional development agency One NorthEast and Newcastle Airport all attending. Meetings at the previous conference in Dubai are reported to have played a key role in bringing Emirates' direct Newcastle - Dubai flights to the region, so hopes are high.
Richard Whitehouse, development manager at Durham Tees Valley, called the convention the 'foremost route development conference in the world' and said meetings were planned with current and potential airlines during the event to discuss new routes.
